Product Review - Canny Collar

How much do you enjoy walking your dog? Leash pulling is the most common reason for people to dread walking their dogs. Many people don’t realize how physically damaging pulling on the leash is for their dogs. Some of the complications include collapsed trachea, soft tissue injury of the neck, arthritis in the spine, spondylosis and other dog healthy problems. It is also physically harmful for the human with risks including neck, shoulder, elbow and wrist injuries. And that is before you fall down! But even more devastating is the damage it does to the relationship between a person and their dog. Being able to enjoy a walk together is the foundation of building a great relationship with your dog. We've found a great product that can get you there without going through a bag of natural dog treats every time you want to go on a walk. The Canny™ Collar is a new dog training collar from the UK that we found to be kind, safe and effective.

While it visually resembles some of the products currently on the market, the Canny™ Collar is actually quite different. The design is simple: a nylon buckle collar with a slip line running loosely around it. The leash attaches to this slip line behind the head while the line forms a loop that fits over the dog’s nose. According to the company, the advantages to this design include excellent pull control, the fact that dogs adjusting easily, elimination of any neck twisting, and it doesn't ride up into the dog's eyes. This design sends a positive signal to the dog, consistently, every time he does what you want. When the dog pulls, the nose loop puts slight pressure on the bridge of the nose, but when the dog relaxes, the collar immediately releases. This signals to the dog “nice choice!” and encourages them to do it again. This release is perfectly timed and consistent, giving the dog the feedback to learn from rather than simply preventing pulling. This allows you to be training your dog while you are enjoying your walk!!

According to the company, the Canny™ Collar was originally released in the UK in 2004 to rave reviews, and is currently used and sold in 80 % of the RSPCA’s in the country. The UK Guide Dogs for the Blind has recently announced that the Canny™ Collar is the training collar of choice for its puppy raisers. It is being successfully marketed in Australia, Japan, Canada (as the Champ WalkMaster) and the US. For more information about this great new product visit www.cannyco.com or email info@cannyco.com.
