The only thing better than a trip to the Golden Coast is enjoying the California sunshine with your furry friend. Whether you live in Los Angeles, or you’re planning a weekend getaway, this city is the perfect place to bring Fido.
First up, take your pup to see the sites. Head for a hike along one of LA’s hundreds of dog-friendly trails. Stop for a photo in front of the ‘Hollywood’ sign and bump elbows with famous (maybe?) folks on the ever-popular Runyon Canyon trail. There’s no reason your pooch can’t marvel at the Hollywood stars right alongside you, so take him for a stroll down the ‘Walk of Fame.’ Just make sure you stop so he can sniff the stars of his animal favorites, like Lassie and Rin Tin Tin.
While many beaches surrounding the Los Angeles area aren’t friendly for Fido, there are a few exceptions. Malibu Beach has a dog-friendly area, but keep your pooch on a leash. And Long Beach is home to a dog beach where Fido can hit the surf.
Next, treat your four-legged friend to a relaxing spa date and some shopping. LA is known for lavishly accessorized pups, and while you can certainly find endless bejeweled toys for Fido, there are plenty of practical ways to pamper your pup in LA. Head to a groomer like Muttropolitan, where your pup can enjoy a holistic grooming session, complete with natural products. Or try the Paw Bar at Pussy & Pooch, where your mutt can dine on a delicious raw dog food meal and socialize with some new friends.
When you’re tired from your busy day, head to one of LA’s dog-friendly hotels. If you’re looking for a fancy, pampered evening, try the Beverly Hills Hotel. Your pooch will not only be welcome, but will have a stash of treats, a luscious bed and little tennis balls awaiting him in during your stay. For something more low-key, try the W Hotel in Westwood, where the hotel has a P.A.W. program. Your furry friend can expect a welcome package including some favorite toys, treats, an ID tag and pick-up bags.
Los Angeles is the perfect place for you and your dog to enjoy the big city, the ocean and the mountains all in one vacation. And, while you’re there, consider hitting other pet-friendly cities nearby, like San Francisco or San Diego.
